All That Remains by Patricia Cornwell

This is the 3rd outing of Dr Kay Scarpetta, the two before being Body of Evidence and Postmortem. All that remains was first published in 1992 and I read it when it came out as I was rather a fan having really enjoyed Body of Evidence and Pot Mortem. Miss Cornwell really was the first in this genre to hit the big time and made a huge impact both here and in the US. Dr Kay Scarpetta is the Chief Medical Examiner who deal with some truly gruesome murders and with her expertise manages to track down some very sick individuals who have perpetrated the crimes. Its 20 years since I read this book and to be honest I had forgotten everything about it, so came to it with fresh eyes. I had over the years got rather tired of her books as they all seemed to become very formulaic and predictable. On re-reading this however it brought back just how good she was and how much I enjoyed reading them. I still think her best was her first, Postmortem, so if you want to get into this series of books, and to date there are 17 in total, this will set you off on the right track and give you all the history of the characters that crop up throughout the series. I have also always wondered why they have never been filmed or made into a tv series. Anyway really enjoyed going back to this book.
